Wabi-Sabi

About a week ago, I returned from my wonderful trip. I'm still organizing my photos from my trip home so I'm not quite ready to post. So, folks hang in there and I promise it will be up by next week. I'm blaming my laziness to being jetlagged.

But, I do want to share with you what I did last weekend. My good friend Kevin Garrison threw a Sushi Party and invited us over. The party will be featured in the April/May issue of Kansas City SPACES Magazine. There were a photographer, the editor of the magazine and a writer interviewing some of us. I was especially delighted when Kevin asked Michael and I to organized and be in charge of the food...so that means prepare all the sushi for the shoot and for his guest. So, my cooking mind started working up a storm of Sushi ideas. They weren't perfect sushi's, since neither one of us is a sushi chef, but hey...it's the whole wabi-sabi concept. There is beauty in imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. The magazine folks were very impressed with our presentation and it was delicious too. The guest loved our sushi and it was a very successful party. My favorite part besides preparing the sushi is plating it. Presentation is an integral part of Japanese cuisines.

That's so exciting! I can't wait to see the magazine spread. I think your sushi in the pictures looked beautiful! I've tried making sushi before and I know how difficult it can be. Awesome job!
