Butter and Love.

Okay, so you will be very proud of me. I remembered to take photos of today's cooking class. We cooked Butter Chicken Curry and my grandma's Rice Pudding. It was so good that as soon as my students left i was licking my bamboo spoon which was covered with curry and rice pudding.

My house smelled so good with all the spices we cooked this afternoon. It reminded me of "ammama's" house (my grandma). She was a loving cook. She loved to cook and serve her grandchildren. I remember visiting her in Singapore and ammama would cook us a 10 course dinner almost every day of our visit. She would not sit and eat with us instead she would stand next to you and serve you. Each time your plate was starting to empty up...she would pile more rice on it and pour more yummy curry on it. And she would say "Eat, eat more. I cooked it for you". I did not mind it at all, as it was so delicious. She always made it look so easy too. I use to think cooking like her was going to be a miracle. She spoke to her food as she cooked. She would bless them with so much love and care. She would tell stories about them...where she learned it, who she learned it from and so on. She was an amazing story teller who was also an amazing cook. I want to be a cook just like her with many stories to tell and share. I have a long ways to go to be like her, but i think or i hope I'm off to a good start. I only wish I learned some more of her dishes from her before she passed away in 2000. She is dearly missed.
So, my dear fellow cooks...cook with love, and serve with care and tenderness. In every each one of us have, there is a little of our favorite grandma.
